I have always held a strong belief in the power of music, and in the past I have worked as a professional musician and as a freelance guitar tutor. After working with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and witnessing the sharp increase in people with addiction and mental health problems, I decided to train as a music therapist so that I could use the impact of music to help make a difference in peoples lives. The benefits of Music Therapy are well documented, and it can provide a safe place for children, young people and adults to express themselves freely and provide an emotional outlet for them.
I have experience of delivering music therapy in a variety of settings including NHS Mental Health rehabilitation, acute and medium-secure forensic units, where I have facilitated both one-to-one and group sessions with adults with learning disabilities and various mental health conditions. I also have experience of working with children with profound and multiple learning disabilities and complex needs.
I currently work within several Special Educational Needs schools, a Pupil Referral Unit and a CAMHS inpatient unit, where I am working with children and young people with complex needs.
